A Model Training Course on “Processing, Value Addition and Entrepreneurship Development in Post-Harvest Sector” sponsored DoE, MoA&FW, Govt of India was conducted at ICAR - Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology (ICAR-CIPHET), Ludhiana from 14 to 21 January, 2019. Total 18 participants from different states of the country participated in the 8 Day long programme. The valedictory programme was presided over by chief guest Dr. Rajbeer Singh Director, ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Ludhiana. The Course Director, Dr. Sandeep Mann articulated the gathering that the aims of training was to bring together the officers from the State Development Department (Agriculture/Horticulture) of the country on a common platform to discuss and update various processing, technological and entrepreneurial aspects in post-harvest sector. The officials from different field of expertise ranging from marketing, cluster development to research from across the nation took part in the model training course.
Director of ICAR-CIPHET, Dr. R.K. Singh emphasized on the timely interventions through such training programmes as farmers are already at a point where agricultural production is maximum, but lack of post-harvest know-how like value addition and processing have limited the producer’s share in consumer’s rupee. He appreciated the participants for their active role in successful completion of the programme.
Dr. Rajbeer Singh addressed the participants and urged them to disseminate the knowledge earned during the training to stakeholders. He emphasized on the importance of training the state government functionaries as they are the agents of farmers’ welfare at large.
During 8 days long training programme, participants interacted with the experts from field of pulses processing, minimal processing, and agricultural extension. They had series of fruitful discussions with experts like Dr. BVC Mahajan, Director, Punjab Horticultural Post-Harvest Technology Center (PAU); Dr. Harjeet Singh Dhaliwal, Director, PAMETI, Ludhiana and Mr Parveen Bhatia, DDM, NABARD, Ludhaiana.
